Gail Russell Chaddock

Gail Russell Chaddock is The Christian Science Monitor’s congressional correspondent. Her signature pieces across a decade of coverage have included a magazine cover story on Speaker Nancy Pelosi and an in-depth series of profiles of Washington’s players.
Previously she did a two-year stint as the Monitor’s Washington-based national education writer.
Prior to her Washington assignments, Chaddock served as the Monitor’s Paris Bureau Chief. She covered French politics, terrorism, NATO, and US-French relations.
From 1992 to 1994, she was the Monitor’s Boston-based national news editor, responsible for the paper’s daily coverage of US news. Before that assignment, she served as an overseas news editor from 1987 to 1992.
In 1999, Chaddock won a first-prize award from the Education Writers Association for a Monitor series entitled “Reinventing our Public Schools.”
Before joining the Monitor, Chaddock was a political science professor. She taught at Bennington College, Wesleyan University, and Swarthmore College from 1978 to 1986.
She holds an MA in Political Science from Princeton University and a BA from Wellesley College.
